ANCYL statement on Presidential Candidacy Preference
29 December 2013
The ANC Youth League National Task Team notes the unfounded article that derives existence from faceless sources. The NTT remains focused on the work of launching Branches, helping Regions hold their Congresses and prepare for Provincial Congresses. It is therefore not up to the NTT to dictate to Branches who is suitable to lead at whatever level. It is one of the functions of Congress to elect the leadership of the organization, thus the report carried by 29 December 2013 - City Press on ANCYL Presidential preference becomes a distraction to our focus.
The NTT adopted a guiding document on organizational re-building - it is the one that guides our coherent work. As the ANC Youth League, we can confirm that the NTT has done some work with regards to Organizational Theory, Branch Manual and reviving the Branch, Regional and Provincial leadership structures.
The NTT has not held and will not hold a discussion on the preferred cadres who are to lead the ANCYL for the following three years; as it is not its mandate. We are not in a position to confirm or deny the ongoing organizational political discussions. Time will come wherein the Congress Discussion Papers will be sent out to our structures.
As the National Office of the ANC Youth League, we call on all journalists to use credible sources when writing their stories about ANCYL matters as that give us all a space to engage openly and thoroughly. It is very difficult to entertain matters raised by face-less sources, whose credibility might be questionable. The NTT is united and focused on the work-at-hand, at the appointed time the nomination for NEC members will be open and we shall inform the media and public when that process starts.
