ANC Youth League National Convener bids farewell to Madiba
7 December 2013
The ANC Youth League mourns the passing on of a Giant of our Struggle, our beloved President Nelson Mandela. We pass our heartfelt condolences to the whole Mandela family. We know that the whole South African nation is at pain and the whole world is mourning with us - we reassure them all that Madiba will always be alive in our revolutionary outlook, thought and actions. He may be gone in person but his spirit will forever guide the ANC Youth League. He is the only President of the ANC Youth League (1950) who became ANC President (1991) and RSA President (1994). A remarkable, outstanding African icon of the World - a symbol of humanity.
We bid Madiba farewell, as he is last amongst the generation of 1944 that declared "Freedom in our Lifetime". 50 years later in 1994, indeed we witness this democratic breakthrough. This founding generation of the ANCYL had conceptualised the correct organisational theory, supported by a clear vision and programme of action. As we move closer towards 20 years of freedom, it has become necessary for our generation to conceptualize new organisational theory to further inform the perspective which has been correctly captured as: "Economic Freedom in our Lifetime". Pillars of this new theory will have to be centred on (without limitation): Education, Economy, Empowerment, Employment, and Entrepreneurship.
As this generation, we have resolved to formulate a new and relevant programme of action, premised on a clear vision for the next 30 years. It is important to note that 70 years of selfless struggle imply a huge responsibility on this generation for it to take a long-term view towards addressing issues of poverty, unemployment and inequality. Economic freedom is not a narrow short-term programme, nor is it a name and surname of an individual, but rather a broader and sustained generational struggle. We believe this economic freedom will be achievable if we stick to the teaching of Madiba and do it under the leadership of the ANC.
As the ANC Youth League, we will develop programmes that will honour Madiba in each month of the year with the highlight of our activism being on his birthday. We declare 05 December the day of Celebrating a Life of Selflessness, Humbleness and Sincerity. It will forever be a day wherein all generations of the ANC Youth League will commemorate and celebrate the achievements of one person who became the embodiment of the strength of all Africans.
The ANC Youth League has organised the majority of young people to focus their energies over the next two weeks to the celebration of the Life of Comrade President Madiba. We have slogan and toyi-toyi singing at Madiba Houghton Home, Vilakazi Street (SOWETO), and Carlton Centre. As Madiba led the nation into peace, prosperity and freedom, as the current generation of the ANC Youth League we shall preserve our nation`s peace and prosperity as we lead our fellow young people to economic freedom under the leadership of the ANC.
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE.
FAREWELL MADIBA, MAY OUR HEARTS AND MIND FOREVER REMEMBER YOU. MAY YOUR WORDS OF WISDOM FOREVER GUIDE US.
