Statement on the outcomes of the 09 & 10 November 2013 - Open Voter Registration
11 November 2013
The ANC Youth League thanks all responsible young people of South Africa for visiting the various voting stations during the past weekend of open voter registration. We are happy with the youth turnout in most of the voting stations. Based on the information we got from the ANC Youth League members who were part of the ANC Volunteers Corp, we had more than 70% of people visiting the voting stations being the youth. Some were verifying their voter registration status while some were registering for the first time. We are eagerly awaiting the confirmation of our facts when the IEC issues the official Open Registration Weekend outcomes and update the nation on voter registration details, so far.
We are thankful to the Matric Class of 2013 youth that took some-time-off their books to go and register. We wish them all the best of luck as they continue to write their exams. We also thank the dedicated members of the ANC Youth League who helped us achieve the positive youth voter turnout that we got this past weekend. In them, the Young Lions of Oliver Tambo, we have the true revolutionaries that are helping our democracy grow and with them we shall make South Africa a better country each day.
The ANC Youth League urges all South African citizens who missed-out on the past weekend activities to verify their registration by sending an ID number through a Short Message Service (SMS) to 32810 or visit www.elections.org.za As the ANC Youth League, we have tasked our branches through-out our 53 Regions to continue encouraging young people to go to the Municipal Electoral Offices to register and verify their registration status. We thank the journalists and radio station disk-jockeys that have helped us encourage the youth to get-up and step-up ensuring that they shape their future by registering to vote. We remind those without ID, and those who have lost their ID`s to visit the Department of Home Affairs so that they can be assisted to get their Identity Documents.
